Extraction and Surgery Instructions
Bite down firmly on a piece of gauze for an hour, changing it afterwards if necessary. Avoid gargling with mouthwash (or salt water) and avoid using a brush.
Do not gargle vigorously because this increases bleeding and delays wound healing for 24 hours after extraction.
Avoid hot drinks and foods.
Apply cold compresses to the swollen area for ten minutes, then remove them for another ten minutes, and so on for two hours.
Raise the head while sleeping with a high pillow to avoid high pressure and reduce bleeding. This makes the patient more comfortable and reduces the incidence of swelling, while covering the pillow, in anticipation of any blood spot that may come out of the mouth during sleep.
In addition to
Take painkillers prescribed by your doctor when you feel pain.
Do not smoke in the few days after extraction.
Avoid sunlight and heat as much as possible.
Eat soft, lukewarm, nutritious foods for 24 hours after the operation, such as dates, drinks, mashed potatoes, tuna, etc. You can eat ice cream after the surgery, and drink nutritious liquids such as apple juice, while avoiding eating on the wound area during the first days of extraction.
Avoid lifting heavy weights, exercising or any work that requires
Mouthwash (warm water + salt) two to three times daily for a week to sterilize the wound area and prevent infection.
Clean your teeth as usual (2-3 times a day), do not forget to floss, and avoid the extraction area in the first few days. You can clean it with a special brush to massage the tissues.
Taking a painkiller helps relieve the pain, but it is advisable to consult a doctor.
Avoid eating on the extraction area in the first few days, and focus on drinking fluids and soft foods.
Do not suck the extraction area to speed up healing, and do not play or fiddle with the wound with your tongue or finger.
Taking painkillers on an empty stomach harms the stomach, so they should be taken after or with food. However, if the pain persists, it is advisable to contact a doctor immediately.
Avoid eating spicy and sour foods that may irritate the area in the first days of extraction, and dry foods that may cause bleeding.
If the doctor places surgical sutures to close the wound area, they must be left in place and not tampered with for 7 to 10 days after extraction, according to the doctor’s instructions, then he must be consulted to remove them.
If the doctor has placed a surgical dressing on the wound to provide the necessary protection, it is preferable not to tamper with it and to clean it gently while using mouthwash during this period. There is no need to worry if a small part of it comes out, but if it comes out completely, you should see a doctor.
Avoid aspirin and any non-prescription medications without consulting a doctor, unless they were previously prescribed by a private doctor. Tell the doctor clearly about any medical problems the patient suffers from or about the medications he takes on a regular basis.
